Ahí se habla sobre cosas que pasarían, como en los ejemplos : We'd get bored if we didn't have books and magazines to read.

= Nos aburriríamos si no tuviéramos libros y revistas para leer.

If they asked me, I wouldn't know what to say.

= Si me preguntaran, no sabría qué decir.

"If" es como decir si, o sea que para poner alguna posible situación se pone "If", el sujeto, y la forma en pasado simple (If I were bored = Si estuviera aburrido / a).

Para poner lo que pasaría en esa situación, va el sujeto, "would" y el verbo en infinitivo (I would use my phone = Usaría mi celular).

Las preguntas se completan con :

If the storm got worse, the boat would sink.

If Beowulf falled asleep, Grendel would attack him.

If Beowulf was smaller, Grendel would eat him.
